Library Foyer

Title

Library Foyer

Description

As you enter the library’s foyer, notice the stencils decorating the upper corners of the doorway leading into the circulation area. During the first floor renovation in 2011, ceiling stencils used over a century before were found in what is the present day Assistant Director’s Office. While it was impossible to save this ceiling—and therefore the stencils—part of the design was re-created in the foyer. Immediately to your left, above the museum case, is an enlarged print depicting the library as it appeared when it opened in 1854.
